Muffin Tin Moments: Q is for Quail

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for a Q muffin tin this week. Today we made Quail Eggs for our Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen and I had a brain storm. I decided to build a muffin tin around them. Here is what I came up with. 

Quail Eggs in a bread nest

Rice to represent the grain quail eat

Fruity Trix cereal to represent berries they eat

Grapes to represent fruit or because they look like quail eggs (take your pick)

Q shaped cheese

Spinach to represent the plants they may eat

Yes, Harold now has a round tin like his sisters. I found two more at the back of my cupboard that I must have purchased a while ago.

Muffin Tin Monday: Lots of X's

We didn't have muffin tins for our J:Jewels or F:Frog units. I just couldn't come up with any brilliant ideas. Not that I would call these X muffin tins "brilliant," but I was happy with the way they turned out.

They had x shaped cheese cut out using my new cookie cutters, pretzel "stix" to make x's out of, a slice of bread spread with peanut butter with an apple butter x on the top, 2 quarters of a carrot sliced lengthwise shaped into an x on top of ranch dressing, x fruit twists and x apple slices.

Muffin Tin Monday: R is for...

It was another fun muffin tin Monday here. We started our R: Rock unit and I tried really hard to come up with something with the food we had in our house.

They had Rabbit shaped cheese (except for Tabitha who had a rabbit shaped sandwich because she doesn't like American cheese.

Carrots (because rabbits love carrots)

Ranch dressing

Round Rice "Rocks"

Chocolate chip pebbles and brown sugar sand

Peanut butter and jelly roll ups.

It seemed to go over pretty well.

Muffin Tin Monday: Z is for Zigzag

We started our Z: Zebra unit yesterday, so of course I had to make a Z muffin tin for the children. I couldn't figure out how to make a zebra muffin tin, but then I came up with this nifty zigzag meal.

They had Fluffernutter Sandwiches (Peanut Butter and Fluff) with chocolate syrup zigzags.

And oranges arranged in a zigzag (which also looks like a "Z")

The only difference in Harold's meal was that he had mandarin oranges instead of fresh oranges. 

I had forgotten that oranges bother Amelia's tongue. She complained, and yet the first thing she reached for to eat, was the oranges. Guess I can't blame her. They bother my tongue too, but I can't keep myself from eating them sometimes.

Muffin Tin Monday: K is for Kangaroo and other things too

Well, I didn't realize it has been almost 2 months since I posted a muffin tin meal. It seems that there are not as many people doing muffin tins anymore and the blog where I used to link them up is no longer hosting a linky. We have been having muffin tins on occasion, but nothing fancy or worthy of sharing as we had been taking a break from lesson time. Today we started back up with our regularly scheduled schooling and I thought I would make a fun muffin tin.

I have to tell you, K is not that easy to make a meal for. And K is the letter we are up to in our My Father's World curriculum. We will be learning about Kangaroos for the next couple of weeks. I decided to focus on the kangaroo's pouch because our Words to Remember are, "I am safe in God." The kangaroo's pouch is a safe place for the joey (baby kangaroo).

I used half of a whole wheat pita pocket for the pouch and stuck a pickle slice cut in half inside for the joey's ears. Then I used some cheese to form the letter "k." I stuck some sauteed kale at the side of the pouch to represent the vegetation the kangaroo would eat. Then we had kielbasa with some ketchup to dunk them in. Our fruit is kiwi, of course. And we had Hershey's Kisses to represent God's love because he loves us so much he keeps us safe. 

I figured the children could put the kale, kielbasa and cheese in the pita to make it into a sandwich, but they didn't really care for that idea. Unfortunately they didn't like the taste of the kale or the pita. I thought it was pretty tasty, though I wasn't supposed to have the wheat. Oh well, I have been bad for a few week's now.

Of course they gravitated to the Kisses. I told them they could have one, then they needed to eat the rest of the lunch.

Muffin Tin Monday: Penguin Fun

Yes, we are doing the letter P again this week. It will be our final week of P: Penguin and then we are moving on to some Thanksgiving fun. For our final P muffin tin I actually created a Penguin theme. About time, right?

Here is our Penguin Muffin Tin

They had Penguin shaped Nutella Bread

Fish shaped pear

Cottage cheese snow

Hard boiled egg

Carrot stick fishing poles

Ranch dressing

and Pepperoni Pizza because well, we had it.

To make the penguins I just cut a penguin shaped body out of bread (they sort of look like bowling pins I have read, it worked). Then I cut two little crescents out of bread for the wings. I spread Nutella on the body and wings then I added chocolate chip eyes, carrot beak and feet and a rice crisp belly.

Here is Harold's tin. He had everything except the pizza. I just cut the food up a bit more for him.

Muffin Tin Monday: Another P Muffin Tin

We are continuing the letter P this week.

The penguins were supposed to have chocolate chips for eyes and feet, but I discovered too late that we were completely out of chocolate chips. 

Muffin Tin Monday: P

Though we have been having muffin tins most Mondays, they have not been "special" tins. I have just been giving the children their meal in the muffin tins. Today, however, I did get to make the girls a P muffin tin in honor of our new letter/unit.

Whoppers (These are a part of their lunch because Tabitha got them from the harvest party at church last night. She was sharing with her sisters to show love, which is what we are learning about in our P:Penguin unit. Our Words to Remember are: I will show love to everyone, especially my family)

Muffin Tin Monday: H is for...Horse and other things

It's time for Muffin Tin Monday

We started our H: Horse unit last week. I would like to share the two muffin tins I created for the children for this unit. 

Our "H is for..." Muffin Tin

They had Hi-C, Ham and Cheese Roll-ups, Home Fries and 3 different H's. A Hot Dog H, a Healthy Green Pepper H and a Healthy Carrot Stick H in Hummus. Plus they had some ketchup to dip it in. Yes, I am aware that ketchup doesn't start with H.

I even gave Harold an H made out of pepper strips.

H is for Horse

They had a Fluffernutter Horse Head Sandwich with a raisin eye and peanut butter mane. Plus foods that horses would enjoy, an apple, sprouts to represent grass/hay, a carrot and an oatmeal cookie that we made this morning. 

They thought it would be fun to have their horses eat some of the food.

Harold had almost the same foods. No sprouts or raw carrot though. The carrots are from a can and his apples are sliced up.
