Littles Learning Link Up: March 7, 2017 - Personalized Foot Books

 Each month you will find:
  • A seasonal round-up (toward the beginning of the month)
  • A guest post featuring crafts, activities, tips, snack ideas or other early childhood topics. (toward the end of the month)
  • Posts where I share what I have been up to with my preschoolers and/or early elementary children (including occasional highlight posts where I share how we used ideas that have been linked up here on Littles Learning Link Up).
Each week, I will host a link up, where you can share either what you have been up to recently, or old posts that may go with the theme.  Feel free to link up more than one post.

Each week I will continue to feature a couple of posts from those that have been linked up.

I hope you will continue to share your wonderful posts, and I hope you will find something new to try with your child(ren).

It would be great for everyone to stop by and visit the other linked-up posts as well. Check them out, leave some comments, pin those that interest you. Let's make this a real party and socialize with each other.

What have we been up to?

On Saturday before last week we had our meal for Norway. We made Rice Pudding as our Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen time, and I made Norwegian Meatballs, Boiled Potatoes, and Peas for our dinner.
Then, we had a short week last week. Not that it was planned. We had school on Monday and Tuesday, but I had some sick kiddos during this time. We "flew" from Norway to France on Tuesday, and started learning a bit about France. Then the girls went to co-op on Wednesday while I stayed home with sick Harold. Thursday and Friday ended up being unplanned field trip days. We got to go visit the new granddaughter! My oldest son and his wife just had their first child. Baby Annika was born on Thursday, and I got to go up to see her while a friend watched the children while daddy slept (he worked the night before and had to work that night as well). Then on Friday we all went up. She is such a cutie. Gonna share one picture here. If you would like to see more, I will be sharing a bunch of pictures on tonight's Wordless Wednesday post.

As I mentioned, I didn't get to go to co-op last week. However, I had my craft planned and sent it along with the girls for my friend to do with the children. This craft was meant to go with Dr. Seuss's book The Foot Book in celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday last week.

The only pictures I have are of Hannah's sample. (The older girls like to take turns helping me get the sample ready.)

For this craft you will need:
blue, yellow, and black construction paper
white card stock
red and black crayons
glue sticks

This was a very simple craft. I prepared the book by taping a piece of blue construction paper to the black paper. Then I traced one each of Hannah's left and right foot. The left foot was glued low on the blue paper (low foot), and the right foot was glued high on the black paper (high foot). A sun was added to the blue side for morning (feet in the morning) and a moon was added to the black side for night (feet at night). I made straight red lines on one foot, and wavy black lines on the other. While there is a line in the book about red feet and black feet, there are no wavy or straight feet. This was just a way to get another opposite in there. Children could just color the one red and the other black.

Let's take a look at that review schedule:

Hannah is still using (and loving) her Language Arts Curriculum from Eclectic Foundations. That review will be posting this week. We also received two new Circle C Stepping Stones books written by Susan K. Marlow. Tabitha and Amelia are reading these books, and the review will be posted next week. I just received Color My Conversation from Northern Speech Services. Color My Conversation is "a dynamic, multi-sensory social skills program developed by a Speech-Language Pathologist to teach the skills of face-to- face conversations." That review will be posting in the second week of April.

Some things I would like to share with you:

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner. Here was a fun St. Patrick's Day Sensory Bin I made for the children a few years ago.

Here is a post where we focused on colors and rainbows in preparation for St. Patrick's Day.

Resurrection Day isn't until next month, but it is never too soon to be preparing for such an important holiday. Last year I shared the Focusing On Jesus Resurrection Day Round Up.

Next week I will be sharing my Literature and Craft Round Up for March. This post will be focusing on Gardens and Flowers. Muffin Tin Monday: In Celebration of Dr. Seuss

AnotherLunch
This week's theme is  . I decided to make a Dr. Seuss tin on Saturday as it was the actual birthday of Dr. Seuss. I believe this tin is almost identical to last years. What can I say, I really liked this tin. I think I will have to do something different next year though.

The girls has Green Eggs and Ham with cinnamon sugar toast shaped like left and right feet. I also included some red and white kabobs to represent the Cat in the Hat's hat. Red strawberries and white bananas for the fruit and red bell pepper and white cheddar cheese. The fish represent One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. And the Strawberry Shortcake roll just represents the red and white of the signature hat, plus the swirls sort of remind me of the swirls in the book, Oh, The Places You'll Go!

Harold had about the same thing, just cut up. I don't give him raw peppers yet and he doesn't really care for cheddar cheese and of course the gummy fish are a no-no, but he had everything else.

Dr. Seuss Ideas

It is Dr. Seuss's birthday tomorrow! Do you do anything special on this day. We have been reading Dr. Seuss books this week. Amelia is reading Green Eggs and Ham to me and her dad! I love the beginner books, like The Foot Book and Dr.Seuss's ABC's, and some of his longer books make my favorites list too, like Horton Hears a Who,  Horton Hatches the Egg  and The Lorax.

Yesterday, Tabitha and I read, Oh, The Thinks You Can Think, which was a new one to me.

Another one of our favorites, and one I have posted about before, is One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish (I never can get those in the correct order). Yesterday we read it and the girls made there own "funny things."

This is the Urp who likes to Burp!

We will probably have a Dr. Seuss Muffin Tin tomorrow for lunch.
Here are two of my past Dr. Seuss Muffin Tins.

(One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish Tin from a couple of years ago)

and

(Our Dr. Seuss Muffin Tin featuring Green Eggs and Ham, The Foot Book and One Fish, Two Fish, plus the red and white stripes from The Cat in the Hat's hat. This was last year's tin)

What are you doing for Dr. Seuss's Birthday?
