Littles Learning Link Up: June 4, 2019

Each month you will find:
  • A seasonal round-up (usually toward the beginning of the month)
  • Posts where I share what I have been up to with my elementary-age children and the preschoolers I work with at our homeschool co-op (including occasional highlight posts where I share how we used ideas that have been linked up here on Littles Learning Link Up).
Each week, I will host a link up, where you can share either what you have been up to recently, or old posts that may go with the theme.  Feel free to link up more than one post.

Each week I will continue to feature a couple of posts from those that have been linked up.

I hope you will continue to share your wonderful posts, and I hope you will find something new to try with your child(ren).

It would be great for everyone to stop by and visit the other linked-up posts as well. Check them out, leave some comments, pin those that interest you. Let's make this a real party and socialize with each other.

Here's a peek at what we have been up to in our homeschool.

We have continued our studies of ancient history with My Father's World. Last week I promised I would share pictures of the children's completed Coat of Arms Shields they were working on. I couldn't find Harold and Hannah's for the picture, but here is a look at Tabitha's and Amelia's, though Tabitha did say she still isn't quite finished. She wants to add things to the empty spaces.

Last week we learned about ancient China, and this week we have been learning about ancient Japan. We've briefly looked at the different dynasties in China, the feudal system in Japan and how it was different and similar to the one in England, plus looked at different creation myths and how their religions came about.

Tabitha has been doing the history and Bible reading alone recently, sometimes before everyone else is around in the morning. She even gets her "routine" time done. Amelia sometimes reads by herself; other times she joins in while I read to Hannah and Harold. Even though our day isn't quite the same now, I am getting used to it, and sort of like it, because I have been able to work with Harold and Hannah every day on their Language Arts Curriculum.

With Harold I am using Grade 2 Lightning Lit from Hewitt Homeschooling. We have been reading some great picture books, discussing them, learning grammar skills, and working on composition. He has really enjoyed working on creating a Word Book.

Hannah saw him making one, and decided to make one herself. She is collecting words the way Max did in the book, Max's Words.

Additionally, we have been working on writing skills with Simply Classical Writing from Memoria Press.

Hannah has been working in Book 2.

And Harold has been working in Book 1. However, we aren't working in this book as rigorously as Hannah is working in hers, seeing as he also has the Lightning Lit he is working on.

One thing I have been concerned about with Hannah is her struggle with spelling. I decided to make this subject more hands-on for her. She has occasionally been using the magnetic letters to spell her words, to see if it will help her remember them.

I love the way she made the words do what they said. Lift is lifting, wind is blowing away like the wind, melt is melting.

Then, she found a sentence.

Even Harold wanted to try using the magnets to spell words.

Let's take a look at that review schedule real quick:

Last week I shared my review of  Supercharged Science.

This week I will share review for the movie "Life With Dog," from Mill Creek Entertainment. Later in the month you will find reviews for Simply Classical Writing from Memoria Press, Lightning Lit Grade 2 from Hewitt Homeschooling Resources, and Matific Galaxy which Harold absolutely loves!

Yep, we still have those review products we are working on, but it has calmed down a bit.

Here are some things I would like to share with you:
