Menu Plan Monday: Week of April 4, 2011

Last week went pretty well, we didn't have the ingredients for the Mexican Rollups on Saturday so we moved the hot dogs to Friday with homemade macaroni and cheese.  Which left us a better selection for leftovers Sunday.  Yummy taco salad with taco meat and leftover beans from the pileups.

Here is this week's menu:

Monday:Turkey burgers and Parmesan-Pepper Sweet Potato Fries (BLC)

Tuesday: Taking daughter out for dinner for making Student of the Month

Wednesday: Crockpot chicken with gravy and rice

Thursday: Breakfast For Dinner Thursday (pancake buffet with sausage links)

Friday: "Heather's Mexican Rollup" (BLC).

Saturday: Hannah's birthday party, possibly meatloaf, noodles and spinach

Sunday: Leftovers

Math Links:Greater Than Game

It's been awhile since I had an actual post for Math Monday.  This week we focused on the letter Gg and I got the idea from letteroftheweek.com to teach some "greater than" math.  The game that follows was my own creation.
This is a really simple game.  I just took a half a sheet of paper and wrote "Greater Than Game" on it with a > under it.  Then I drew some lines to create a little chart called "Greater Than Facts."  In order to play the game the girls each get to roll one die. We then bring the dice into the middle of the table to compare the amount of dots.  We then put the dice on the Greater Than Game paper with the die with the most dots on the  left side of the paper.  Then we say, for example, "5 is greater than 1."   I then wrote the numerals in the chart and the girl who had rolled the larger amount received a "stick."  If the girls rolled equal numbers no one got a stick (I debated with myself whether to give them both a stick or neither. Still not sure if that is the way I like it) and we wrote it at the bottom of the game chart, "6=6"

The girls really seemed to like this game, they have asked to play it two times since.

Some other math we did this week was with the science "experiment" of making goo.  First we needed to measure how much corn starch was in one box.  I measured 1/4 cup at a time, showing them that it took 4 to make a cup.  

We discovered there were 3 cups of corn starch in the box.  Then I had to divide it into 4 parts.  So I drew 3 cups divided into quarters.  I shaded each 3/4 of a cup with a different pattern to show we needed 3/4 of a cup 4 times.

Not sure if they had any clue what I was doing or if it makes sense to anyone else, but it makes sense to me.

And my answers:1.  If you had to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?I would have to say wraps as long as I could vary the kinds of vegetables I would include.
2.  Do you write your blog posts in advance or the day you post them?Most of the time I am writing my posts so I can post them right then.  I have a really hard time getting anything done in advance.
3.  Have you ever ridden in an ambulance?Yes. I have ridden in an ambulance one time.  I wasn't sure what was wrong, but it was the middle of the night and I was having trouble breathing and my heart was beating fast.  Turns out it was an anxiety attack I guess.
4.  What is your favorite candle scent?I love vanilla scented candles.  Some floral and fruit scents are too strong for me.
5.  Coffee or tea?I love the smell and taste of coffee, but it doesn't like me. I get very jittery.  I have started drinking green tea to help with weight loss, so I have to pick tea.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday: April 3, 2011

Time once again to share my interpretations of  Ashley's photography hunt items.  This week's items are:High key, Bedroom, Something Tiny, Off in the Distance and Stripes
I was completely unsure what High key was.  I figured it may have something to do with photography, but wasn't sure.  When I asked family members what they thought high key was they suggested an actual key up high.  Not sure why it took me so long to look it up, but now that I have an idea, I am still not sure how to do it with my camera.  So I am passing on the first item and heading straight for the rest of the items.  If anyone has any advice on how I can accomplish high key with my rinky dink Canon Power shot 4.0 mega pixels camera I would love to hear from you.
Bedroom 

This is my poor daughter's bare side of the room.

She shares her room with her teenage sister.  Enough said.

Something Tiny

Love mini chocolate chips, just the right size for chocolate chip pancakes which hubby loves.

But I had to share the tiny little bear I was given. Isn't he cute and tiny (especially compared to the biggest bear in the house which belongs to Tabitha)?

In The Distance

I was looking for a nice picture of something in the distance.  

Hubby suggested finding a sign of a destination that was miles in the distance.

I decided to combine the two ideas, showing the road curving off in the distance.

 Stripes

My girls have a nice supply of striped shirts, don't you think?
