My first introduction to the WubbaNub pacifier was a blog giveaway several months ago. I had never heard of such a thing, even though, as I found out, the WubbaNub is not a new product. The WubbaNub was born out of desperation back in 1998. Of course, at that point I had 2 preschoolers and a toddler so I would have had no use for a WubbaNub, which is essentially a pacifier with a cute plush animal attached.
Aren't they adorable? You can check out the WubbaNub Website to see these and ten other WubbaNubs.
I realize not every child takes a pacifier. Some babies would rather suck their thumbs, like my oldest boy used to, or their fingers, like Hannah still does. Some babies don't suck their thumbs or take a pacifier, like Tabitha and Amelia. In fact, I tried giving Tabitha a pacifier as she was constantly wanting to nurse, but she refused. But for babies who do take a pacifier this product is really cute and quite innovative.
Pacifiers really do help a baby who has a strong need to suck and they can help soothe a crying baby. The problem is, as the creators of the WubbaNub found out, pacifiers tend to fall out of babies' mouths. And then...they get lost. It is quite frustrating to listen to a screaming baby while you hunt for the pacifier in the car seat or the crib in the dark. So mommy or daddy need to sit there holding the pacifier in place. Which is exactly what the Schneiders (makers of the WubbaNub) experienced while on vacation with their 3 month old son. However, once mommy attached the pacifier to one of the baby's plush animals the pacifier stayed in the baby's mouth and they were all able to sleep. And of course, other mommies then wanted one for their fussy babies and a product was born.
They have even won some awards, that is saying something:

These are SOOO cute! I had baby #3 2 weeks ago and am working hard to get her to take a paci instead of using me as her paci. ALSO, my 2 year old sucked her thumb when she was a baby and STILL does, so I really don't want the baby to. I was able to take the paci away from my son when he was 18 months old, but I can't take my daughter's thumb away! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my son had one of these and loved it! Such a great way to keep track of pacifiers!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great little invention! I could have used something like this when my daughter was first born, I'm sure we could use it now also. My daughter is constantly loosing her paci.
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! I wish I still had kids young enough for this.
