Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen #75: Oreo Frogs

Time for Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen
(A weekly linky to share what you and your children have created in the kitchen.)

The linky is at the bottom.

I found an idea for a cute snack to go with our F:Frog unit a while ago. Surprisingly, I remembered about it when we started the unit. You can find the original idea over at Made to Be a Momma.  I followed her instructions pretty closely, though I had to substitute for the candy eyes.

Mini Pretzels
Mini Chocolate Chips
Package of Green Candy Melts
Fruit Roll-Ups (or other red candy for tongues)

This week was:

Hannah and a Mom in the Kitchen!

I started out by having Hannah put one mini chocolate chip with each Smartie, so they would be ready when we needed the eyes.

Then I laid out the Oreos on a foil covered cookie sheet and had her put two pretzels next to each cookie.

Then we melted the candy melts according to the package directions.

To make the frogs we first covered the pretzels in the green chocolate and laid them on the cookie sheet, arranging them bottom to bottom for each of the frogs' legs. Then we covered the Oreos and placed them on top of the pretzels.

I then added the eyes ("gluing" the mini chocolate chips to the Smarties with the candy melt chocolate. Then I added the tongues that I had cut out of the Fruit Roll-Ups.

We let them firm up over night.

I think she was quite proud of her froggies.

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?

I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.
