Being the daughter of a Christian. The Beloved Daughter has won awards from Women of Faith and the Book Club Network. It was also a #1 amazon bestseller in Christian suspense and is the top-rated ebook in several different kindle categories. The Beloved Daughter is available in kindle or paperback. You can also get the audiobook narrated by four-time Audie award-winner Kathy Garver.
My Thoughts:
The Beloved Daughter captured my interest from the very first chapter and it kept me in its grip to the very end. I have been aware of the fact that there is persecution of Christians in other countries, but this book really brought the reality and the horrors to life. I just don't understand how humans can be so cruel and heartless to other human beings.
At first I wasn't sure if this book was based on a true story or not. Though Chung-Cha is not a real person, I did discover in Alana Terry's Bonus Materials that some of the stories were based on actual events. This made the book so much more powerful.
Following Chung-Cha from the night she was imprisoned because of her family's faith was just heart-wrenching. She was a young girl at the beginning of the book and was tortured and lied to and mistreated for years in Camp 22 in North Korea. We see her strength and her failures as she struggles to understand why God would allow such things to happen.
This book has definitely opened my eyes to the horrors facing Christians in other countries. That said, I was very glad that the author didn't dwell on the details of the tortures and the gory details were left at a minimum. If you would like to discover these truths for yourself, I would highly recommend The Beloved Daughter. You will be encouraged by the strength of the persecuted Christians and the bravery of those who do what is in their power to help.
