Muffin Tin Monday: Butterfly Life Cycle

Time for Muffin Tin Monday

The theme this week was "Perfect Picnic." If I hadn't already done my Insect theme recently, I may have done ants, but we have moved on to Butterflies. I figure this could still fit, because butterflies are insects you may see while you are having a picnic outside. Okay, I know that is a bit of a stretch, but it is the best I could do.

Here is our Butterfly Life Cycle Muffin Tin

The girls had:
Tapioca pudding as we thought the tapioca sort of looked like little butterfly eggs.
Cottage cheese eggs on a spinach leaf.
Fruit-kabob caterpillars (blueberries and grape slices)
Carrot slice caterpillar
Crescent roll chrysalis (we filled it with an apple piece shaped like a caterpillar).
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut in half diagonally and shaped like a butterfly with orange bell pepper antennae.

You can see how we made the chrysalises here.

And the butterfly

Harold had cottage cheese, diced apples, blueberries and grapes, peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut into 4 triangles and his chrysalis.

  2. Cute! And I think you can totally get away with it as a picnic theme! I did a butterfly life cycle bento for The Muffin a while ago, and she loved it. Always a popular theme with the girls, I think!

  6. That is such a neat idea! I'd do it with my preschooler, but fear he'd be munching before we could even look at everything.

    1. We have been doing muffin tins and themed lunches for a while. The children no they are not allowed to touch until we get to talk about it and mommy gets her picture.
