Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen #42: Orange Cream Fruit Salad

Time for Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen
(A weekly linky where you can share your special time in the kitchen, such a great place for learning. You can also link up Kid-Friendly Recipes)

The linky is at the bottom.

We started the letter O this week. I debated trying to find something to do with the girls for Octopus/Ocean, some type of under the sea dessert. I settled on making this Orange Cream Fruit Salad which I found at allrecipes.com.

Here are the girls, ready, though not as willing as usual, to make the fruit salad.

Here are the ingredients.

1 1/2 cups milk
1 pkg instant vanilla pudding
1/3 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
3/4 cups sour cream
1 (20 oz) can pineapple tidbits, drained
1 (15 oz) can sliced peaches, drained
1 (11 oz) can mandarin oranges, drained
1 apple, cored, peeled and sliced
2 bananas, sliced

Speaking of the ingredients, Tabitha got very upset that I had gathered the ingredients without letting her read them off to me. Oops. She did read the instructions though.

First we added the pudding mix

Then we added the milk,

 and the orange juice concentrate

We mixed it together for 2 minutes on medium speed.

Then we added the sour cream.
(Take note of Amelia's face when she realized we were adding sour cream to our fruit salad.)

But she did her part to add 1 of the 3/4 cups.

I then beat it a bit to mix in the sour cream.

I let the two older girls slice up a banana each. It's been a while since they've done that.

 Thinking they did pretty good.
Then I had them all dump one of the cans of fruit into a large bowl.

I have to admit, I didn't let them slice, core or peel the apple. That is still a mommy job.

 We mixed the dressing in...

Yum, yum, yum.

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?

I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.
