The linky is at the bottom.

This week, in celebration of Valentine's Day, the older two girls and I made Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cookies. You can find the recipe at Sally's Baking Addiction. These were so simple to make and they turned out great. I was afraid I was going to get them too brown, but they were nice and pink, great for the holiday.

Have you ever made cookies with cake mix? I hadn't, but I am glad I found these and I can't wait to try with different flavors.

Here is what you will need:

1 box of Strawberry Cake Mix
1 tsp baking powder
2 large eggs
1/3 cup oil
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/4 cup chocolate chips

The girls were very cooperative. They did not fight over whose turn it was and helped each other. This was a nice change.

They started out by helping pour the cake mix in the bowl.

Then we added the baking powder.

The girls took turns mixing the baking powder into the cake mix.

Then we set it aside.

Then I let them each crack an egg into the other bowl. No, Amelia is NOT cracking it over Tabitha's head, it just looks like it from this angle.

They whisked together the eggs, oil and vanilla.

Then we added the egg mixture to the cake mixture.

And they took turns stirring it.

After I took my turn to make sure there were no pockets of cake mix left we added the chocolate chips. (Personally I thought there were a few too many, so I may only add 1 cup next time.)

We took 2 to 2 1/2 TBS of dough and formed them into balls. Yes the dough is very oily.

We baked them at 350 degrees for 10 minutes and they came out perfectly.

I cooled them on the cookie sheet for 3 minutes and transferred them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Finally, after dinner, we were able to enjoy them.

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?

I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.

  2. I've never heard of Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cookies, but you should market them--they would be a hit! My kids help in the kitchen too...usually that gets them more excited about what we are going to eat when it results from shared efforts.

  3. I've never heard of Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cookies, but they look fantastic! Your photos are great. I like when the kids help in the kitchen, even if they make a mess...there is lots to learn!
