Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen #103: Snow Ice Cream

Time for Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen

The linky is at the bottom.

The weather cooperated wonderfully this week! We are on week 17 of MFW 1st grade and our science unit is "Snow." At the beginning of the week, I was a little doubtful that we would have any cooperation from the weather. Fortunately, it snows Wednesday night into Thursday morning. I will share more of our snow fun this weekend in my weekly wrap-up post. Today, I wanted to share the yummy Snow Ice Cream we made. It has been almost 4 years since we made Snow Ice Cream, and the recipe I had then wasn't the best, mostly because it didn't give an exact amount of snow needed. I found a different recipe on allrecipes that came out much better.

Ingredients:

1 gallon of snow
 1 cup white sugar
2 cups milk
1 Tbs vanilla

We used my large measuring cup to mix the milk, sugar, and vanilla in before mixing it in with the snow. This was a suggestion made by one of the people who rated the recipe.

Tabitha found the 2 mark line on the cup.

Amelia added the sugar.

Harold added the vanilla.

We stirred it.

Hannah added it to the snow.

We stirred it all together.

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?
I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.

  1. This is fascinating to me. We don't get much snow here (too low an elevation and too close to the coast) so I've never heard of such a thing as snow ice cream. Very neat post :).

  2. Fun! We haven't made snow ice cream in years. I'm sure my kids would love making it again, though we'd have to have some snow first. :)

  3. We cannot wait to make some. I thought we would have by now but seems to be a strange winter here in WI; no snow.....lol
