Perceptive Perspective-March 2, 2011 Power

I saw this huge tree lying down beside the road yesterday and realized it certainly demonstrated the POWER of the recent storm.  Unfortunately I couldn't take too long to get a better shot that would show you how long (I mean tall) this tree was.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss Part 1

Well, we've been spending the first part of this week reading different Dr. Seuss books.  Today, in celebration of his birthday I wanted to have a Dr. Seuss themed muffin tin.  I was going to include green eggs and ham, but then I found this cute idea over at Muffin Tin Mom that she posted last year.  It fit perfectly, because I picked the book One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

 out of the library because we are doing the letter F this week.  I couldn't do it exactly the way Michelle did her's because I had to use what was available.

I promised the girls they could help with this muffin tin. I usually don't let them help on Monday's because I like it to be a surprise.

First they sorted the Finding Nemo gummies I found at the store.  I opened up several packages so they could find all the blue fish.

Then they helped make the tuna fish by adding the mayonnaise.  I cut the sandwich, cheese and beets into fish shapes.  Then the girls shared out the grapes.

One Fish (fish shaped tuna sandwich with avocado eyes and fins)

Two fish (fish shaped cheese)

Red fish (yes, those are beets)

Blue fish (they had more than 1, but I wanted a good picture of Dory)

Old fish and new fish (These are baby goldfish and the gummy is Nemo.  The other orange gummies must have been his dad, so he is the old fish)

Then the star banana puffs represent the fish with the star on the belly.

I am using the grapes like Michelle did, as fish eggs.

Tiny Talk Tuesday: March 1, 2011

Time once again for some cute comments from the little ones of the family.
Like most of what Tabitha says, I am not sure where this came from:Tabitha: Why do we like eggs?Mom: Because they taste good.Tabitha: No, that's not it.  We like eggs because they don't have cottage cheese in them.
I was sitting at the dining room table with Hannah while she finished eating. I looked over at Tabitha sitting at the computer and noticed she was looking at the keyboard.  She had just finished a game.  Tabitha: I'm trying to see how to put it to sleep.Mom: It goes to sleep on it's own.Tabitha: Then I gotta put a blanket on it.Mom: Ah, no.Tabitha: But it's cold.
Here is one from Amelia.  We were brushing teeth, getting ready for bed.  Between spitting she said, "My teeth was trying to fell out."
On day Amelia was laughing for some reason.  I asked, "What's that?"Amelia answered, "That me laughing."
Another night during dinner the children saw a flashing orange light outside and called it orange lightening.  It was actually a tow truck.  A little bit later, still sitting at dinner, they got to talking about how if the lightening comes we have to go down in the basement. (We had to head to the basement once before with in the last year because of a tornado warning.)  I really can't remember who said this but, "He's back to his own home."Mom: Who?"The thunder."Reminds me of the other thing Amelia has been saying lately (so the above quote is probably from her).  When the fire hall siren goes off the children get scared as we live right across the street.  And every Monday evening they do a test.  When the siren stops, Amelia will say, "It's gone back to its home." and  "Where does the siren live?"
When Amelia was in the bathroom the other day she bumped her head, though at the time I wasn't sure what was wrong as she was with daddy.  She said, "I hurt my hair."
The one day, Tabitha had finished a picture.  She put it on the floor and asked, "How do I jump into the picture?"
And of course we have had a stomach bug going through the family. The one day Tabitha said, "I'm still sick. Don't feel good.  Just have a little more to go."

Mommy and Me Monday March 1, 2011

And I actually had some Mommy and Me Monday pictures that I also forgot to post yesterday.  And we had such fun too.  We were playing with "Quacky" the duck that Tabitha had since she was a few months old. Quacky kept getting the girls and the little dolls they had.  Then they tried feeding Quacky the dolls undies and Quacky kept spitting it out and quacking at them.

Muffin Tin Monday: (a day late) March 1, 2011

Oh my goodness. I forgot to post my MuffinTin Monday post yesterday.  Yesterday we had our muffin tin at dinner time because I wanted to do a F tin and I knew I wanted to have fish.  Krystal really like the battered fish portions so I wanted to make sure she got some.

Menu Plan Monday: Week of February 28th

Well my first week of menu planning went pretty smoothly.  The boiled potatoes on Wednesday became microwaved "baked" potatoes due to lack of time.  And the carrots became glazed carrots by request (they didn't have to twist my arm on that one.  I found the recipe over at allrecipes.com a while ago and though the combinations in the recipe sound weird, they are really very good.  I use half the ranch mix called for though, it was unintentional at first, I boobooed, but we found we liked it.).  Friday and Saturday got switched around because my daughter was the one I was making the tacos for and she was at her dad's due to the weather.  And we had leftovers for Sunday lunch, then baked ham with homemade potato salad and green salad for dinner.  The pork from Monday is really good shredded up, cooked in more mushroom soup with the extra from the crock pot thrown in, over rice.

Here is this week's menu:

Monday: F foods (muffin tins for the girls) fish, french fries, french cut green beans, fruit cocktail, frozen treat (Italian Ice)

Tuesday: Chicken Tacos

Wednesday: Split Pea Soup

Thursday: Breakfast For Dinner Thursday

Friday: Pizza and salad

Saturday: Chili dogs

Sunday: Leftovers one meal, pizza the other
