Jammin' Fun Workouts with the Magic Moves Jammin' Gym {A Review}

We all know how important it is to get children up and moving.  That's why I'm glad  Educational Insights has such fun products like this new one I was able to review.  If you remember, I mentioned that I have been given the opportunity to review two wonderful products this holiday season. One of them was Robot Face Race, which I have already posted my review for, plus there is a giveaway I don't want you to miss. The second product is the Magic Moves Jammin' Gym.

"2-4-6-8, moving, grooving, feeling great!" The Jammin' Gym is a fun way to get children up and moving. It is shaped like a free weight and comes complete with flashing lights, music and a "coach" giving instructions for each exercise. There is also a wristband which is meant to ensure it doesn't fly off during play and damage something, hurt the child, or break.  An instruction book is also included.

There is a switch to turn the Jammin' Gym on and choose the volume (high or low). Plus there are 2 buttons. The Green Play button is to be pressed at the beginning of the workout and to start each new exercise. The Blue Repeat button will repeat the last exercise.

When the children are ready to play, they will turn it on and the coach will tell them to press the green button to get started. It always starts with a warm-up routine and then moves into the workout. The coach will give them specific directions and encouragement while the lights flash in different patterns and various musical tunes play.

There are 22 different tunes and 22 different light shows. These mix together with 65 different kid-fun exercises to provide tons of variety in this workout routine. There are familiar exercises like side arm raises, jumping jacks, toe raises, shoulder rolls and arm circles. There are some other fun workouts such as tree choppers, windmills, and boxer punches. After every three 30-40 second exercises the children will encounter "Sports Breaks" where they can pretend to swim or use the trampoline to name a couple. Then there is the girls' favorite, "Dance Party" where they can dance to the music, again for about a half a minute. If they come to an exercise they really enjoy, they may press the repeat button to do it again.

We have been having a blast using the Magic Moves Jammin' Gym during our opening morning time. We gather together in the living room to exercise before sitting down to have story time. The children each take one or two turns being the leader, which means they are the one who gets to hold the Jammin' Gym. Even mommy will take a turn.

All of the children are able to get involved with our workouts using the Jammin' Gym. The rubber handle is easy to grip by young children and adults. The music is lively and the instructions are quite helpful, though there are times it is hard to hear as the children are busy dancing around and being loud. The repeat button is also helpful for being able to listen to the instructions again if needed.

This is a wonderful product for getting children excited to be exercising. There are so many different exercises, the children will have lots of variety to keep it fun. I love that it has been "Developed in consultation with ACE certified personal trainer and children's fitness coach."

The one thing I would love to see changed is the wrist strap. Though we have never dropped the Jammin' Gym while using it, I could see it happening as the strap is actually big for my wrist. I would love if they could make an adjustable strap to ensure it will remain securely on the child's hand while in use.

  4. Just a suggestion about making the strap adjustable. You could put a rubber band tightly around the spot where you want the opening to be. Then if you want to make it bigger or smaller, just move the rubber band. :-) It does look like a great toy!
