The linky is at the bottom.

Sorry for the lack of Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen these last few weeks. After my surgery, I just wasn't up to being in the kitchen baking/cooking, or sitting at the computer to write blog posts. I am slowly getting back on my schedule.

This week we have been studying plants using one of our newest review products, Science Unit Studies for Homeschoolers and Teachers by Susan Kilbride. After learning about the different parts of a plant, we made a salad the one day, and a veggie platter the next day to review. Our salad included veggies representing all the parts of a plant (roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruit, and seeds). Our veggie platter was just missing the leaf veggie as lettuce doesn't really seem to fit on a veggie platter.

Amelia and I made French Onion Dip to go with the veggies during our dinner meal. I found lots of different recipes and decided to combine the ideas for the simple dip made with french onion soup mix.
Ingredients:

1/2 an envelope of French Onion Soup Mix
(this measured 1/4 cup)
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
Various veggies for platter

I originally tried equal amounts of mayonnaise and sour cream, but it was too salty. So I added another 1/2 cup of sour cream.

Just put the ingredients into a bowl...

and stir!

The dip should then be refrigerated for around an hour. It does taste much better after it has sat for a while, allowing the flavor to settle and the onions to soften.

Can you spot all the different parts of a plant represented on the veggie platter (minus the leaf)?

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?

I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.
