We enjoyed The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall so much, that we decided to do an art project in addition to baking the apple pie. We are also going to plant apple seeds later (I got a whole bunch out of the apples that I cut up for the pie). For more info about the book check out this week's "What My Child is Reading" post
I cut open a brown paper bag and drew a tree on it. I told the girls we needed to add an appearance of texture. To explain what I meant we headed out to the backyard, I mean the park, to look at tree trunks. I had never noticed how different the different "kinds"of trees' bark look and feel.
Then the girls used a brown crayon to make it look like bark
Then I cut an apple in half, stuck a fork in to be used as a handle, and the girls made some red apple print apples on the tree leaves that I made by taping four pieces of construction paper together and cutting out a tree top shape.
Our finished masterpiece has a place of honor in the play room.

This is great! I just started planning my apple lesson for this week and might borrow this idea! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThe apple tree is so cute! It looks like they had so much fun making this. I am definitely going to look for that book.
