Littles Learning Link Up: December 15, 2015 Two Paper Plate Angel Crafts

 Each month you will find:
  • A seasonal round-up (toward the beginning of the month)
  • A guest post featuring crafts, activities, tips, snack ideas or other early childhood topics. (toward the end of the month)
  • Posts where I share what I have been up to with my preschoolers and/or early elementary children (including occasional highlight posts where I share how we used ideas that have been linked up here on Littles Learning Link Up).
Each week, I will host a link up, where you can share either what you have been up to recently, or old posts that may go with the theme.  Feel free to link up more than one post.

Each week I will continue to feature a couple of posts from those that have been linked up.

I hope you will continue to share your wonderful posts, and I hope you will find something new to try with your child(ren).

It would be great for everyone to stop by and visit the other linked-up posts as well. Check them out, leave some comments, pin those that interest you. Let's make this a real party and socialize with each other.

What have we been up to?

We have been enjoying our Advent with Melk the Christmas Monkey. If you would like to learn more about Melk I invite you to check out my review post from last year. He has been busy giving us fun things to do as we prepare for the birthday celebration of Jesus our Lord. There was one day he wanted us to make paper plate angels. I search online and found a cute one that was also quite simple. And then this past weekend I needed a quick angel craft for my Sunday School class. The reason I didn't want to use the same craft is because Harold and Hannah are in my class, so they had already made the previous one. I admit, I would have done the same one if push came to shove, but I found an even simpler paper plate angel, so I went with it.

Paper Plate Angels

Here is the one I made with my children at home.

Paper Plate Handprint Angel
(I found this angel at Huppie Mama)

First we painted the front of the angel yellow with our Kwik Stix.

As we only have one yellow, Tabitha started by coloring her angel's face. We like to use the apricot crayon to give it a flesh color.

When the front of the plate was dry (which happens really really fast with Kwik Stix) we folded the sides of the plate to form a gown shape. Then the sides were painted yellow as well.

After the paint was completely dry (about 90 seconds), I stapled the point at the top where the gown folded together, so it was stay folded. Then we glued on the angel head.

We then used q-tips to spread white glue on the gown/body of the angel, so we could add glitter.

While we waited for it to dry (which takes longer than waiting for Kwik Stix to dry) hands were traced onto yellow construction paper and cut out. These were the angels wings which were glued on to the back of the paper plate. When the glue was completely dry, we added a yellow pipe cleaner halo.

This second angel is the one we made in Sunday School.

Simple Paper Plate Angel
(I found this angel at Crafty Journal)

This angel was perfect for the amount of time we have to do a craft during our Sunday School period. I cut the wedge out of the paper plate to form the wings and the body of the angel. I even stapled it together while I was at home so it would be ready for them. If I were doing this craft with my children, I would have drawn the lines and let the children cut them out themselves.

The children then glued an oval piece of cardstock on for a head (yes, I had cut these out prior to class). Then they added glitter the same way we added glitter to the Paper Plate Handprint Angel.

Personally, I liked the angel as you see it above, without a face, just a simple representation of God's messenger. However, the children thought they needed faces, so they added some with glitter.
