Littles Learnng Link Up: Chimpanzee Fact Books

Welcome to Littles Learning Link Up. Each month you will find:
  • A seasonal round-up (at the beginning of the month)
  • A guest post featuring crafts, activities, tips, snack ideas or other early childhood topics. (toward the end of the month)
  • Posts where I share what I have been up to with my preschoolers and/or early elementary children.
Each week, I will host a link up, where you can share either what you have been up to recently, or old posts that may go with the theme.  Feel free to link up more than one post.

Each week I will continue to feature a couple of posts from those that have been linked up.

I hope you will continue to share your wonderful posts, and I hope you will find something new to try with your child.

Now onto this week's fun Chimpanzee Fact Books that the children made.

We have been reviewing an educational video streaming site called SmartKidz Media. I will be sharing the review in a few weeks, and you won't want to miss that. However, right now I would like to share one of the projects that was an offshoot of watching a few of the videos in the My Animal Family section. The children are each taking a turn during their show-watching time to pick an animal baby to learn about. There are 5 animal babies to choose from, and Tabitha picked Chimpanzees. There is a Video Storybook, Fun Facts Video, and Story Songs video. The Fun Facts selection is jam-packed with all sorts of information, which we used to make Chimpanzee Fact Books.

This was a project all 4 children could easily participate in with a little bit of creativity on my part.

First, they all made the Chimpanzee heads. I cut out cardstock in the shape of a chimp's head, then I cut out light brown construction paper in the shape of the face and ears.

The children painted the cardstock dark brown.

They also drew facial features on the light brown construction paper faces.

When it was dry, they glued the face together. I printed out lined paper for the older girls and used plain paper for the younger children. I cut this paper out in the shape of the heads. Tabitha and Amelia were to choose 3 or 4 nuggets of information from the facts I had gathered while watching the video. I had organized the information into categories such as: Chimpanzee Babies, Chimpanzees Have, Chimpanzees Are, About Being Sociable, and About Being Noisy. There were eight pages all together.

For Hannah and Harold, I typed up several lines of information and found a couple of chimpanzee pictures online for them to put in their books. They only had the 2 pages. Chimpanzee Babies and About Chimpanzees.

Now onto:

Littles Learning Link Up Features

On my last Littles Learning Link Up post, there were 3 wonderful posts linked up. I decided to feature all three this week.

This week's featured posts:

1- Betsy from BJ's Homeschool Encouragement and Resources shared Preschool/K- Early Math Fun. There are some great ideas for hands-on everyday math experiences, which have always been big in this house.

2- Michelle from Homeschool Your Boys shared Make Your Own Homeschool Preschool Curriculum. There are a whole bunch of fun, easy to do ideas for working with preschool-age children.

3- Mom's Heart shared Five in a Row: Harold and the Purple Crayon. If you would like some fun activity ideas for extending Harold and the Purple Crayon, you are going to want to check out this great post. While we don't use Five in a Row anymore, I love finding new activities to go with books.

I would love to have you join in this week! What sort of activities do you do with your young children? Do you have some favorite activities you would like to share? I invite you to link up below. I will be pinning posts on my Toddler Ideas or other relevant board, and I would love to feature some of the activities each week from what is linked up.

Please know I may share a picture from your post and link back to it, along with sharing how we used your idea in our school time. By linking up you are giving me permission to use a picture from your post. I will ALWAYS give credit and link back. Additionally, if you choose to try out any of the ideas with your child, please make sure you give credit where credit is due.

Linky will be open through Sunday night, to give me time to check out all the posts and get the Features organized. Please take the time to visit some of the other wonderful posts linked up.
