One/Orange

Monday we focused on the number one.  As I wanted to do something with insects, we started ants.  I am hoping to find some anthills, though the heavy rain yesterday may make that an impossible task.  We made a picnic ant craft to go with the book I am hoping to get out of the library.

(I cut a piece of green construction paper in half for the grass,
and the girls snipped a fringe,
and a 4x4 piece of copy paper.  I marked off 1 inch lines
and drew circles where they were to glue on the 1 inch squares)

Only one ant came to the picnic because we are focusing on the number 1.

We added one egg to our egg carton poster.

The girls had a themed lunch.  Ants on a stick (peanut butter toast with raisins) and one beet and one slice of cheese.

They were told if they wanted more they could ask for it, one piece at a time.  I only had one taker on this offer.  Amelia did have more of everything.  Then for dessert I found a recipe at Step BY Step Childcare site after I Googled ant crafts.  The girls made Ants in the Sand for dessert.  I gave them 1 graham cracker which they placed in a plastic zippy bag, after breaking it up.  Then they crushed it by alternating between pressing with their hands and  a rolling pin on the plastic bag.

We poured the crumbs into cups and added mini chocolate chips.

They ate it with a spoon, yummy!

We also made our Number 1 book (similar to the zero book).  The difference was, we were able to have extra pages on which we glued one picture.  I focused on things that naturally come in the quantity of "one." (sun, moon, mouth, nose)

Today we played a game.  I stood in the living room and told the girls they needed to follow my directions.  I asked them to bring me certain objects, one at a time.  I said, "Tabitha, please bring mommy one block.  Amelia please bring me one doll."  Then when they brought me the requested object I asked for another from each of them.  We laid them out on the couch and took a picture.  Made a great activity for listening and following directions and learning the quantity of  "one."

The girls colored the pictures for their orange collage, but we will finish the collages next week as we are continuing to focus on orange next week.

Just a reminder: my linky is still open for Words of Wisdom Wednesday.  To see the description follow this link (it is at the bottom of the post).  The question asked was: How do we get dressed?  If you received an answer from your child, post about it and then I invite you to link up at this Wednesday's post.

This weeks Words of Wisdom Wednesday question for you to pose to your little ones is:
How do you think we drive?
I am looking forward to seeing your children's answers.
(this is the question that we will be answering in next week's post)

Words of Wisdom Wednesday with a New Twist

Last week, while I was researching about weekly memes, I discovered something I didn't realize.  As I am still new to the blogging world (well, been here less than a year) I am still trying to learn all the terminology.  I am still not actually sure what a meme means, but I have decided to add a twist to this "meme."

I will be posing a different question at the end of the week, posted in my weekly post, which I usually link up with Preschool Corner at Homeschool Creations and Tot School at 1+1+1=1.  This past week I asked you, my fellow mommy bloggers, to ask your precious children:

How do we get dressed?

This is the answer I received:

Tabitha: By putting on our clothes.
After a little prompting, she stated, "We just use our hands.  We could button up a dress, some snaps around the back.  But my buttons are supposed to go in the front.  We have a whole body getting dressed."

At a different time she she said, "We pull our clothes over our head..  That's why we've got to get dressed, cause it's daytime.  We show the sun going across the sky [signs day].  I like signing the word day."

I tried posing the question to Amelia.  This was her response, "Cause I don't know."  That is her response to a lot of questions lately.  Like, "Why didn't you tell mommy you were poopy."  Or, "What is in your mouth?"

I am looking forward to seeing your children's responses.  If you would like to also include other little words of wisdom, insight or humor, go right ahead.  I didn't have a chance to write anything down all week that Tabitha said, except for last night when I recorded what she said while we were taking our walk.  I had told her to stay over in the stones at the side of the road, but I told her to be careful because I didn't want her to fall in the ditch.  She said, "Yeah, because I don't want to fall in the screen, stream I mean."

To link up, write a post sharing your child's answer to the above question.  Then click on the link below to add your link, linking it to your Words of Wisdom Wednesday post.  You could grab my button if you choose, but please make sure to link back to my blog somehow, so others can join in too.

Mamarazzi Monday: August 2, 2010

Mamarazzi Monday

Time once again for Mamarazzi Monday, hosted by Ann Marie over at Household 6 Diva.
I have such trouble picking which pictures to share, and I know I share a lot.  Come see what I caught on camera this past week.  Oh, and if you love to take pictures come join us.

I have several sequences of pictures that tell a story this week:

What a cute little duck, wonder if he is food.

I'm getting angry

Really angry

How'd that happen?
(That was the first time she ever rolled back to her back
from her tummy, though she has been able to go the other
way for a while)

Let me outta here

Okay, this is a little uncomfortable

Told you I wanted outta there

Oh, that is what the car seat looks like.

Gotta go

Oops, I did it again.

Here are a few pictures I just had to share:

(Doesn't she look so tiny)

(According to Tabitha, "I'm not tired."  We disagreed.)

When daddy decided to help vacuum...

he got a little help too.

Time for Close Up/Whole Picture

Homeschool Blog Hop: Making New Friends

Kylie over at Our Worldwide Classroom hosts the Homeschool Blog Hop and this week she is doing things a little differently.  In an attempt to make new friends we are to follow the instructions and go visit new blogs, hopefully finding blogs of interest and new friends.  Here are the instructions:
