Daddy decided he wanted some cookies the other day. He had found these new Cherry flavored Delightfulls from Nestle, and wanted to try them out. So, we followed the recipe on the back of the bag, which is slightly different than the recipe I usually use, but not by as much as I thought it was. It is actually the same recipe as Nestle's normal Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Kids and a Dad in the Kitchen
Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
3/4 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 large eggs
1 bag Nestle Cherry Delighfulls
(we omitted the nuts)
We combined the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Hannah learned how to level the flour.
In a separate bowl, we combined the brown sugar, sugar, butter, and vanilla.
They were really amused by the brown sugar staying in the shape of the measuring cup.
Daddy has discovered that the lid of the vanilla is equal to 1 tsp, so he always uses the lid as a measuring spoon.
Beating the ingredients.
When the butter, sugars and vanilla were nicely combined, we added the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
We then added the flour mixture a little at a time.
We tried mixing with a spoon, but it was quite tricky, so daddy used the mixer.
We dropped by rounded tablespoons on the cookie sheet, and baked in a 375 degree oven for about 10 minutes. The came out very thin, so daddy added some more flour to the remaining batter.
The ones on the right are the first batch, the ones on the left are the ones with added flour. They were technically still too thin for daddy, but I enjoy them that way.
Directions:
1- In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
2- In a large bowl, beat together softened butter, brown sugar, sugar and vanilla.
3- Add eggs to sugar/butter mixture, one at a time and beat well.
4- Add flour mixture to sugar/butter mixture a little at a time and beat well.
5- Stir in chocolate chips.
6- Drop by rounded Tbs onto ungreased cookie sheet.
7- Bake in a 375 degree oven for 9-12 minutes.
8- Cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes, then remove to wire rack.
Do you have your children help you in the kitchen? What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?
My kids always love helping out in the kitchen. Glad you guys had fun day of baking.
ReplyDeleteWe have found that we have more fun if we take turns. We have been doing kids and a mom in the kitchen for a while, but now that there are 4 kiddos all wanting to help, it can get quite stressful in the kitchen. But, they all love helping. Especially if they can have one-on-one time.
DeleteCherry makes a good match for chocolate. I love these!
ReplyDeleteMy husband LOVES chocolate covered cherries, so these were right up his alley. He and the children loved them. I thought they were good, but would have preferred mint or peanut butter.
DeleteThanks for stopping by.
Baking and cooking is a great way to spend time as a family. I can't wait until my youngest is old enough to start helping out.
ReplyDeleteOh, we love cooking. Kitchen time is great together time. I'm not sure how old your little one is, but our kiddos started helping in the kitchen before they were 2.
DeleteThanks for stopping by.
Love chocolate chip cookies ... we will have to try this take on the recipe. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a nice change. We've also made them with 1/2 chocolate chips, 1/2 white chips. Those were really tasty.
Deletethanks for stopping by
These look yummy! I want to try them! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, they were. And all it was was a change in chips, so simple.
Deletethanks for stopping by.
Never tried it with anything cherry before. Sounds tasty and the kids obviously loved baking with daddy :)
ReplyDeleteOh, they love when daddy is around to help. He works nights, so it is hard to find time, so they relish it all the more. He loves chocolate covered cherries, so these were perfect for him.
DeleteWhat a great idea, the kids love baking and helping mom and dad. We are always looking for new bake goods to incorporate into our baking routine, thanks for the heads up on these new cookies.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. Hubby just happened to see them one day and grabbed a bag up. I looked on their site and it looks like they have caramel, mint, and peanut butter too. Thing is, I would prefer any of those over the cherry, so we are going to have to try each of them, maybe once a month.
DeleteThose cookies look amazing, now all I need is a man to make them for me ;). The kids always enjoy helping me bake.
ReplyDeleteCookies are more likely to get made if the hubby is around. A favorite is Chocolate Peanut Butter No Bakes because they are so easy to make. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteOh that sounds great with a cherry flavor added to it. Your kids looked like great little helpers. Now I'm craving cookies!
ReplyDeleteSorry, didn't mean to make you crave cookies.
DeleteYes, they do love helping. We love kitchen time, it is great for learning too.
Thanks for stopping by
Is it safe to assume the flour is plain flour and not selfrising? Also, would these cookies work without the chocolate chips?
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love following your blog! You have a great family!
Yes, sorry. I always just write flour for all-purpose flour. If it was any special flour I would specify. Maybe I should start being more specific on my blog even though I only write "flour" on my recipe card.
DeletePersonally, I used to like making a cookie without chips for me, because I really like them by themselves. This was a slightly different recipe for me, so I am not sure, but I would assume so.
So glad you enjoy the blog. Thank you.
My husband came in now while I was blogging and saw the picture of your cookies and said, "You have to pin that one. They look delicious!" Going to have to try and make them soon! Thanks for sharing and for linking up with Social Butterfly Sunday this week :)
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I both think that is cool! Glad to stop by, thanks for letting me know about your link up.
DeleteThose sounds delish. I love all the pics and that dad was right in there with them! Thanks for sharing and linking up at Favorite things Friday! Don't forget to add the link back or button to be eligible to be featured! Hope to see you again this week! --Rebecca from Hip Homeschooling
ReplyDeleteIt means so much to me that my husband enjoys doing things like this with the children (and let's me photograph him doing so). Was glad to find your link up. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteMy kids also help me do the cooking/baking and they love it. The cool thing is my daughter uttered that she'll do the kitchen work for me so I could rest.
ReplyDeleteAWww, how sweet?! Great little tip about the top of the vanilla measuring 1 tsp! Thanks for sharing & for linking up to Favorite Things Friday with Simply Rachel & Hip Homeschooling! Hope to see you again next week! =)
