Toddler Ideas Tuesday: Nimby Cloud Crafts

Welcome back to Toddler Idea Tuesdays! I hope you will join with me again in sharing the fun activities, crafts, and lessons that you are doing with your young children.

This month's theme for the Poppins Book Nook is Weather. Now, I am not going to be sharing our actual Book Nook post until next Monday, but I wanted to share the fun spin-off craft we made yesterday.

One of the favorite books I used to read when I worked at the Montessori was Nimby by Jasper Tomkins. I was thrilled to see our library had this book when I was looking for books related to weather. In this story, a little cloud named Nimby frustrates the cloud family by never doing what everyone else is doing. He would rather make fun shapes than conform to what they want to do. He ends up going off on his own and finding a fun friend. He discovers an island that can also change shapes. They enjoy their days together creating things to complement each other's imaginations.

The children each picked one of these creations to make using brown construction paper and cotton balls.

Tabitha made a fountain.

Amelia made an ice cream sundae.

Hannah made the mysterious castle.

Harold chose to make the banana.

This was a really simple craft, though the younger children needed help shaping the island. Hannah cut hers out by herself and I helped Harold.
