Littles Learning Link Up: December 12, 2017: Our Egyptian Meal

 Each month you will find:
  • A seasonal round-up (usually toward the beginning of the month)
  • Posts where I share what I have been up to with my early elementary children (including occasional highlight posts where I share how we used ideas that have been linked up here on Littles Learning Link Up).
Each week, I will host a link up, where you can share either what you have been up to recently, or old posts that may go with the theme.  Feel free to link up more than one post.

Each week I will continue to feature a couple of posts from those that have been linked up.

I hope you will continue to share your wonderful posts, and I hope you will find something new to try with your child(ren).

It would be great for everyone to stop by and visit the other linked-up posts as well. Check them out, leave some comments, pin those that interest you. Let's make this a real party and socialize with each other.

What have we been up to?

We have been continuing our Bible reading through the early history of the world. We finished Genesis and have started in Exodus. While we were learning about Joseph, we watched a couple of movies: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, plus Joseph King of Dreams. We also had an Egyptian meal while we were talking about how Joseph served his brothers a meal. We even made costumes.

We used this as an opportunity to use the Magic Stix Washable Markers from The Pencil Grip, Inc.
Yes, the same company that brought us those wonderful Kwik Stix and Thin Stix, now have markers. Markers that are guaranteed to not dry out for up to seven days with the cap OFF.

We had pitas filled with cheese and heated a bit to melt the cheese, green peppers for a veggie, fig bars, grapes, nuts, dates, hummus and baked fish.

We've been reading a wide variety of books. Math books, Christmas books, and books on Ancient Egypt. Plus our two read-aloud chapter books. I apologize for not keeping up with Fun Fiction Friday and Picture Book Saturday.  I hope to do better going forward. I did want to share that we read the following book after finishing our reading of Genesis.

We also read this book a little at a time:

Here are our two read alouds. I started reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series several weeks ago. In fact, I wrote a review of the first book, The Lightning Thief, in my last Fun Fiction Friday post. I absolutely loved that series and zinged right through it. Tabitha is up to the second book and Amelia is starting the first book. Why am I bringing this up? Because I then discovered the author, Rick Riordan, had also written a series based on Ancient Egypt: The Kane Chronicles. So, the first book in that series, The Red Pyramid became our newest read aloud, alongside the My Father's World recommended Star of Light by Patricia St. John. We have loved reading about things we have learned about in our lessons on Ancient Egypt. They even bring up Moses, who we are currently learning about.

Let's take a look at that review schedule real quick:

I recently received Bonjour! Let's Learn French. That will be a review that will post on The Old Schoolhouse Magazine's website. Other than that, we have no current reviews.

A couple of things I would like to share with you:

It is almost the middle of December! That means Christmas is almost here. If you are looking for some ideas to keep your family focused on Jesus this Advent season, I invite you to check out the following posts:
