Littles Learning Link Up: September 22, 2015 A Quick Update

 Each month you will find:
  • A seasonal round-up (toward the beginning of the month)
  • A guest post featuring crafts, activities, tips, snack ideas or other early childhood topics. (toward the end of the month)
  • Posts where I share what I have been up to with my preschoolers and/or early elementary children.
Each week, I will host a link up, where you can share either what you have been up to recently, or old posts that may go with the theme.  Feel free to link up more than one post.

Each week I will continue to feature a couple of posts from those that have been linked up.

I hope you will continue to share your wonderful posts, and I hope you will find something new to try with your child.

It would be great for everyone to stop by and visit the other linked-up posts as well. Check them out, leave some comments, pin those that interest you. Let's make this a real party and socialize with each other.

Harold and Hannah have been busy learning about the Sun and the Moon with My Father's World Kindergarten. Amelia and Tabitha haven't been included in most of those lessons, though I do read the books to all the children together. The older girls had been learning about Christopher Columbus, and we just moved on to learning about Jamestown and Captain John Smith with My Father's World Adventures. Here's a little peek into what we have been up to, seeing as I have not had the time to get my week in review posts up recently.
Kindergarten:

Here is a look at our "Turning Grapes Into Raisins" Experiment. We placed several grapes on a plate, in the sunniest window of the house. Then we placed a few in a bowl on the dashboard of the van. I didn't take frequent pictures of the ones in the house because they weren't really doing much. However, here you can see the progression over a week. I counted Day 1 as being the day we put them in the van. So Day 3 is after checking on them 2 days, on so on.

Here is what the grapes/not quite raisins that were in the house looked like on Day 8:

Here they are side-by-side on Day 8:

A week later, the ones in the playroom window had finally started to get a bit more wrinkled. However, I forgot to take a picture that day. They are still in there however, so I will share a picture from this morning: Day 21:

Still not as wrinkled or dried out as just a week in the dashboard in the van.

Moving on to our M: Moon week. I wanted to share our M Muffin Tin. It has been a while since we had a muffin tin.

Hot Dog sliced into quarters and shaped like an M. A hot dog is also Meat.
Carrots they were to shape into an M.
Mozzarella cheese
Lemon Meringue Pie
Macaroni and Cheese
Mandarin Oranges
M&M's and Mini Marshmallows

We made these Sun, Moon, and Stars Hanging Pictures. The Sun picture gets glued to the back of the Moon and Stars picture and then they we can hang them up with yarn so you can see both sides.

We have also been working on the worksheets that come with the My Father's World curriculum, plus worksheets from Super Teacher Worksheets (which we have been reviewing), and reading lots of books about the Sun and the Moon.

Adventures:

We spent 3 weeks on Christopher Columbus because there was so much to do, plus we are reviewing a book called Christopher Columbus: Across the Ocean Sea. This is a Heroes of History book from YWAM Publishing written by Janet & Geoff Benge. I will be posting my review later this week, so don't miss it!

Here are a couple of highlights.

We made foil boats.

And we set up the "Ocean Sea" otherwise known as the Atlantic Ocean. On one side is Euope, and on the other side is China (which was where Columbus was trying to get to). However, nobody knew there was more land standing in the way (the Americas).

Unfortunately, our boats wouldn't have made it out of the docks. But, oh well. It was still fun. Though Harold was really upset. Hannah's did the best, but it was shaped more like a raft.

These Christopher Columbus figures were from Super Teacher Worksheets. If you have never heard of this site before, I really do recommend it. Here, check out my review for more information.

Now onto:
Littles Learning Link Up Features

On my last Littles Learning Link Up post, there were 18 wonderful posts linked up. I will be sharing one randomly selected post and the top clicked on posts. This week there were 3 that received the same number of clicks.

Please remember, for this to be a successful linky party, we need to be visiting some of the other posts that are linked up. See what catches your eye, stop by, pin the post to a relevant board, and perhaps leave a comment to let the author of the blog know you have been by for a visit. I know I appreciate others commenting and letting me know they have read my posts, so I am sure others do too.
This week's randomly selected post is:

Debbie from One Little Project at a Time shared these cute Easy Tissue Paper Pumpkin Favors.

This week's features posts are:

1- Kelly from Raising Samuels Homeschool shared a Review of Science4Us.
2- Kid Minds shared this pretty Yarn Apple Craft.

I would love to have you join in this week! What sort of activities do you do with your young children? Do you have some favorite activities you would like to share? I invite you to link up below. I will be pinning posts on my Toddler Ideas or other relevant board, and I would love to feature some of the activities each week from what is linked up.

Please know I may share a picture from your post and link back to it, along with sharing how we used your idea in our school time. By linking up you are giving me permission to use a picture from your post. I will ALWAYS give credit and link back. Additionally, if you choose to try out any of the ideas with your child, please make sure you give credit where credit is due.

Linky will be open through Sunday night, to give me time to check out all the posts and get the Features organized. Please take the time to visit some of the other wonderful posts linked up.
