Toddler Ideas Tuesday: May 20th, 2014

Welcome back to Toddler Idea Tuesdays! Have you been busy with your young children?

We have been quite busy, though I have been doing more from our My Father's World 1st Grade curriculum than I have been doing specifically with the younger children. I would like to share how I have been trying to get the younger children involved without stressing myself out too much (if that is really possible).

We had been spending most of the morning playing and them having our lesson time, going straight into watching a show while I made lunch, eating lunch and finishing up our school work while little Harold takes his nap. Though they were playing all morning, this schedule seemed to be too much. So, I have tweaked it a bit and I think we are finding it more acceptable for all of us.

After breakfast, the children still play while I finish cleaning up and get our materials gathered. Some days the older girls will do the breakfast dishes. The goal is to start lesson time by 9:30, but the best I have been able to do is 10:00. We have our Gathering Time (what we call circle time) where we still do the same things we did at the beginning of the school year, minus putting the calendar cards on the poster. We pray, say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Bible, sing "The B-I-B-L-E," and "This is the Day the Lord Has Made." From there we go straight into our calendar and weather. The children take turns being the leader and take turns pointing to our calendar. Even Harold takes his turn now.

We then move into Number of the Day, which we didn't do with MFW Kindergarten. All of the children get to have their own beans and coins to count, then we make our number of the day paper which usually corresponds to the devotional or the science lesson. I will share more about these in my Weekly Wrap-Up posts, if I get a chance to post them. We also include Hannah and Harold in our devotion time and learning our Virtues, or character traits with Little Lads and Ladies of Virtue. During this time they also eat a snack that corresponds with the devotion or science lesson.

When we are done with these aspects of our day, the children get to take turns on the WiiFit U while I get our craft ready. When Tabitha and Amelia are done on the WiiFit U they get to work on their craft while Hannah and Harold exercise. The older girls then start working on their workboxes (more information on these tomorrow during Workbox Wednesday) while I have some time to focus on the younger children with their craft. These crafts are not a part of the MFW 1st curriculum. I have been coming up with them myself, or finding ideas online, in order to have the younger children feel more involved.

Here are some of the fun crafts we have been making.

Curious about what they were making? Next week I will share the finished projects. It has been a wonderful way to include the younger children in with My Father's World 1st Grade.

Toddler Idea Tuesday Features

Unfortunately, there are no features to share today as no one linked up the last two weeks.

I would love to have you join in this week! What sort of activities do you do with your toddler? Do you have some favorite activities you would like to share? I invite you to link up below. I will be pinning posts on my Toddler Ideas board and I would love to feature some of the activities each week from what is linked up. Please know I may share a picture from your post and link back to it, along with sharing how we used your idea in our toddler time. By linking up you are giving me permission to use a picture from your post. I will ALWAYS give credit and link back. Additionally, if you choose to try out any of the ideas with your toddler, please make sure you give credit where credit is due.

Linky will be open through Sunday night, to give me time to check out all the posts and get the Features organized.
