Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen #83: Cinnamon Cappuccino Brownies

Time for Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen
(A weekly linky to share what you and your children have created in the kitchen.)

The linky is at the bottom.

This week we have been focusing on a book for our Poppins Book Nook post coming up on Monday. Our theme this month was Folk Tales. I'm going to wait until Monday to share all of the fun, but I couldn't wait to post our Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen. We made Cinnamon Cappuccino Brownies because they fit in with our coffee theme. Aaannnd, if you want to find out more about the book, you'll have to stop by on Monday. For now, here is the yummy recipe, found on the side of our Cinnamon Crunch cereal box. The recipe comes from a store brand, not the General Mills brand. Just wanted to make that clear.

Ingredients:

4 cups Cinnamon Crunch cereal, finely crushed
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 pkg brownie mix
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup water
2 eggs
2 Tbs instant coffee
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup chocolate fudge topping

We started with the really fun part of crushing the cereal. I gave them each a zippy bag of cereal and a wooden spoon.

While they took care of beating the living daylights out of the cereal, I melted the butter.

Then we combined the crushed cereal with the melted butter.

I pressed it onto the bottom of a 9x13 baking pan.

Then we mixed the brownie mix with the eggs, water, oil, eggs, instant coffee, and cinnamon.

We stirred it until it was well combined and poured it on top of the crust.

Lastly, I spooned dollops of the fudge topping onto the brownies and we swirled it gently through the batter.

I baked it in the 350 degree oven for 34 minutes. I did check it at 29 minutes as the recipe said 28-30 minutes, but it wasn't done yet.

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?

I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.

  2. Yummy! Great job girls! We are only starting in the kitchen. Camilla loves cooking eggs. We learn sequencing with the "cooking an egg" cards that I keep in the kitchen: first, next, last.
