The linky is at the bottom.

We have been learning about the letter c these last two weeks, so what better way to celebrate than to make cookies, especially after we found a mouse in our garbage can the other day and ended up reading If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

We followed the instructions for Chocolate Chip Cookies that were on the back of the chocolate chip package, except I substituted 1/2 cup white morsels for 1/2 cup chocolate chip morsels. I had planned on adding chopped walnuts, but it was a part of the recipe anyway, so that worked out well. We did only make a half a batch because I was low on butter and didn't realize it when hubby went to the store.

Here is the recipe:

2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 package chocolate chips
1/2 package white morsels
3/4 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 375.

We mixed the flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl and set it aside.

Then we creamed the butter, sugar and brown sugar.

We added the egg and vanilla and beat well.  Then we added the flour mixture in.

Next we added the chips and nuts and mixed well.
We took heaping tablespoons of dough, rolled them into a ball and placed them on our ungreased cookie sheet.

I baked them for 9 1/2 minutes. The recipe said 8-10 minutes.

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?

I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.

  1. Cooking is an awesome way to teach kids. Your teaching math and science which are so abstract sometimes. And you get the reward of getting something tasty to eat in the end. And you are also making memories! Hope you have a great day.

  2. Looks like fun. I wonder if my kids would help me make lactation cookies. Perhaps if I don't tell them what they are called....
