Littles Learning Link Up: October 2, 2018

 Each month you will find:
  • A seasonal round-up (usually toward the beginning of the month)
  • Posts where I share what I have been up to with my early elementary children (including occasional highlight posts where I share how we used ideas that have been linked up here on Littles Learning Link Up).
Each week, I will host a link up, where you can share either what you have been up to recently, or old posts that may go with the theme.  Feel free to link up more than one post.

Each week I will continue to feature a couple of posts from those that have been linked up.

I hope you will continue to share your wonderful posts, and I hope you will find something new to try with your child(ren).

It would be great for everyone to stop by and visit the other linked-up posts as well. Check them out, leave some comments, pin those that interest you. Let's make this a real party and socialize with each other.

What have we been up to?

I can't believe we are starting our fifth week of school for this school year already! We have been keeping more or less on target with the lessons in our My Father's World teacher manual.

We have continued our readings from our main book, Augustus Caesar's World, plus reading from The Roman Empire, and the novel The Bronze Bow. We read about a bathhouse in a Roman city would be like, plus what family life would be like. We didn't get a chance to work on either of the hands-on crafts though. Maybe we will find time this week to make knucklebones and a clay toy pig.

For science we've been learning about the human body with The Human Body for Every Kid by Janice VanCleave, plus we just started using The Body Book.

We have moved on from learning about the brain and are learning about the five senses right now. The Body Book is a book full of reproducible models of the human body. We started by looking at all five senses.

First they colored and cut out the different sections where are senses are (eyes, ears, nose, mouth, skin, finger, and brain).

Then they had to cut out the flaps on the top page that gets taped over that page.

When it is all assembled they can take a peek.

We focused on the sense of smell last week, and are focusing on taste this week.

The older girls continue to use Grammar Planet to learn about grammar, while I am using Grammar Galaxy with Harold and the Hake/Saxon Grammar with Hannah. For spelling Tabitha and Amelia use Phonetic Zoo, while Hannah is using

With My Father's World the children are expanding their vocabulary using English from the Roots Up. Last year they learned Greek roots, while this year they are learning Latin roots. We have started with the numbers, learning two a week. So this week we are on "novem" and "decem." The children learn the meaning of the Latin root, plus some derivatives, then they are to write a few sentences for the derivatives.

And they are all continuing to work on Latin with PictaDicta.

We are also reading a book called Forensic Faith for Kids by J. Warner Wallace and Susie Wallace. In this book we are learning how to share the truth from the Bible, which is our duty as Christians, as we join the kids in the story who are trying to solve a couple of mysteries. We have chosen to also watch the helpful videos and use the PDF pages from the Case Makers Academy's website.

Speaking of reviews, let's take a look at that review schedule real quick:

Last week I shared my review for the math practice website called I Know It

This week I will be sharing my review for the book I mentioned above called Forensic Faith For Kids. And later this month I will be sharing my reviews for the newest release from Heirloom Audio Productions, St. Bartholomew's Eve, and the newest season of The Brinkman Adventures.

Here are a few things I would like to share with you:

  2. I LOVE the Body Book. We did created the whole skeletal and organs for it in our co-op and the kids just loved it. (We'd been studying the different systems anyways and did that for the last section).
