Celebrating Fathers with the Picture Book With My Daddy {A Review and Giveaway}

Time for another children's book review and giveaway!!

With Father's Day right around the corner, I thought this was just the perfect book!

We received the 28-page, hardcover picture book titled With My Daddy: A Book of Love and Family which is published by Abrams Appleseed. This sweet picture book is appropriate for toddler and preschool children, though younger elementary children will enjoy it as well.

In this story the little girl is shown doing adventurous and playful things with her daddy whom she loves very much. We see that he is there to support and guide her, and she knows she can cling to him.

The story is full of fun things a child can do with his or her daddy. I love that the little girl compares herself to such things as "a little bird in a warm, comfy nest," and "a courageous queen high up in my castle." In fact, the book is full of similes as the little girl or the father are compared to different things while going about their day.

I also love that most of the pages end with the girl saying how she feels while being with her dad. She feels safe, brave, daring, confident, adventurous, playful, and calm.

We see how even when she has times when she is feeling angry, a firm word and gentle hug can make her feel peaceful and happy again.

And the books ends with the following reassurance:

This is such a sweet book to celebrate the relationship between a father and his child. Not only that, but it reassures children that their father will be there for them. I also appreciated that the author did not shy away from using more complex vocabulary, increasing a child's vocabulary, and giving them words to express their feelings. Additionally, the illustrations are just adorable, and really convey the sense of the father being bigger than all the little girls problems, someone she can look up to and trust.

What a special book for a father to share with his child(ren). And one I highly recommend!

With My Daddy: A Book of Love and Family is available for $16.95.
