Littles Learning Link Up: November 8, 2016 - Footprint Turkeys

 Each month you will find:

• A seasonal round-up (toward the beginning of the month)

What have we been up to?

We have been keeping busy with MFW ECC and Kindergarten, plus using the phonics in MFW 1st grade for Hannah. The focus has really been on ECC though. I have every intention of posting about our weeks in the USA, but I have got to find some time.  Yesterday we headed to Mexico and will be focusing on that country for the next two weeks before coming back home for a week off to celebrate Thanksgiving (that worked out perfectly). Last week I promised a fun Thanksgiving craft. I came up with this Footprint Turkey to make in the preschool co-op class.

Footprint Turkeys

Here are the materials you will need to make the turkeys:

Brown construction paper

White paper

Glue sticks

White glue

Scissors

Red construction paper (for the wattle)

Orange construction paper (for lets and beaks)

Googly Eyes

Red, yellow, and brown paint

Paintbrushes

Containers for the paint (as usual we use an egg carton)

I had traced their feet as soon as they arrived and cut them out while they played. However, children who are old enough could cut out their own footprints.

I had the children sit at the table and we glued the turkey together as a group.

I had them glue the footprint to the right side of the paper; however, I noticed that it would be better to glue it on the right side of the paper when we started painting. Glue the foot so that the toes are toward the bottom of the paper. Make sure to leave room for the feathers at the top, the feet at the bottom, and the beak and wattle at the side.

Use the white glue to attach the eye.

I then had the children come over to the table individually to paint on the feathers.

They were to use long strokes of each color. I decided each color would get its own paintbrush to avoid water messes that were sure to come with cups of water on the table for rinsing. As you can see, they were using their right hands to paint feathers to the left. This is why I said I had them put the turkeys on the wrong side of the paper. If the turkeys were facing left, they would have had an easier time painting the strokes.

I loved their individual techniques.

They were to use the brown to paint on wings.
