Ferocious Fluffity Children's Book Review {and Giveaway}

We had the pleasure of receiving this brand new children's book from the bestselling team behind Chicken Butt! and Chicken Butt's Back! Written by Erica S. Perl and illustrated by Henry Cole, Ferocious Fluffity is a cute story about a classroom pet. Though I had never heard of the other books by this creative team, I was thrilled to find Ferocious Fluffity in my mail pile a few weeks ago. It is such a funny book with some important bits of advice about pets, especially classroom pets.

Ferocious Fluffity is published by Abrams Books for Young Readers.
The release date is July 19, 2016
This children's book is recommended for children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade (ages 5-7). All of my children enjoyed the book (their ages range from 4-9), so I would say your preschoolers may also enjoy the book.

This book opens with Mr. Drake's class opening a box to reveal a new pet. We don't see cute little Fluffity until the next page. What I noticed after reading the book a second time however, is the huge book in the background where the class had been voting on a name for the hamster. (I always enjoy noting details like that.)

And the big reveal! A cute little hamster that they would all love to hold.

Now, who would think that this little cutie could do any harm?

Unfortunately, the students quickly found out that Fluffity wasn't as cute and innocent as she appeared. They decided to let her out when Mr. Drake was late to class. The children get bitten and chased around the school. Mr. Drake finally arrives and gets bitten himself!

See, told you. Not so cute and cuddly anymore.

Well, after trying multiple ways to make her let go of the teacher's leg, they finally succeed and get her back in her cage. And what did they learn? Two things. What do you think they are? Well, you will have a chance to tell me in the comments if you choose to enter the giveaway to win a copy of the book. But, more on that later.

That wasn't quite the end of the book. It appears the children learned from their mistake and the teacher got one more pet. The reveal of that pet was quite the shock and let's just say, Fluffity looks a little concerned. And no, I am not spoiling it for you.

As I already mentioned, we really enjoyed this book. I am always a fan of books with rhyming prose, so that was the first plus. The watercolor illustrations are bright and colorful, really getting the feel of the story. I loved seeing how cute little Fluffity became this tiny ferocious monster. All in all, a cute story. Public schooled or homeschooled, I can see children enjoying this story. You don't have to go to school and be familiar with a classroom to realize the error the children made. These are important lessons everyone getting a pet hamster should know.

I definitely recommend Ferocious Fluffity for yours and your children's reading pleasure.

As I mentioned, I have been given the opportunity to bring you, my readers, a chance to win your own copy of Ferocious Fluffity

  18. Children need to know that there will be rules throughout their whole lives.
    First, rules are put into place for a reason & safety is a great reason!
    Second, you can't judge a book by its cover!
    Things aren't always what they seem.
    Plus they should not approach a strange/new animal without an adult around!
