The linky is at the bottom.

Wow, I didn't realize I missed two weeks of Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen. Sorry about that. Two weeks ago we were at the Creation Museum in Kentucky at the beginning of the week and never really got back on schedule. Last week we didn't get a chance to get in the kitchen until Saturday, so technically today's Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen is from last weekend.

We have been studying some early American History and I decided to make some teepee snacks. As my plans came together, the teepees became part of our dinner Saturday night. I found the idea for these teepees over at Little Nummies. She had made them around Thanksgiving 5 1/2 years ago. I thought they would go very well with our study of Native Americans.

Ingredients:

Soft Flour Tortillas (1 per teepee)
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Lettuce
Butter (to help the teepee stick together)
Lettuce
Decorations (we used multigrain Cheerios)
Pretzel Sticks
Peanut butter (to help the decorations stick)

These were quite simple to put together. We each made our own (except for daddy, I made his). You start by cutting the tortilla in half and cutting a triangle out of the one half for a door.

Then you need to add cheese to the uncut half.

Roll the other half into a cone shape, "glue" together with butter and place on top of the cheese.

Here are the children making their own:

Then they need to be baked in a 350 degree oven until the cheese is melted and the tortilla is crisp.

Unfortunately ours flopped a bit, but we made them work.

We then added 2 pretzel sticks through the top hole, some lettuce on the outside of the teepee for grass and we decorated with the cereal.

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?

I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.
